Happy Valentine's Day... Highball

The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre remains an unsolved crime, where 85 years ago, 7 men were found murdered in Chicago's SMC Cartage Company Garage. The only surviving witness to the carnage was a German Shepherd named "Highball", that belonged to one of the victims (John May). Highball's frantic barking alerted the neighborhood, where upon the Police were called in. Police discovered the dog chained beneath a truck & howling in fear.

It's believed that the Chicago cops had the dog put down shortly after the murders. Stories are told that on dark & lonely nights, passersby can still hear the woeful howling of the long-dead canine coming from where the SMC Garage once stood.

Shirley Temple - RIP

As a kid, I spent many years enduring my sister's fascination with some annoying, curly-top kid in the movies she adored. The torment of listening to "on the good ship lollypop..." blaring out of the TV set every Sunday morning was mind numbing beyond compare.

Thankfully, that mop-topp Shirley Temple kid grew into a pretty hot gal that my teenage eyes found really easy to look at. I could understand why Mickey Rooney had the hots for her. Hubba-hubba!

As an adult, Temple retired from Hollywood, raised a family & became active in politics. Her career as a US Ambassador earned her worldwide respect.

Well done, kid.
