As the weather gets better I can do some glass work on the G2. I pulled up the other video made in the spring of 1956. http://youtu.be/dFJbLrSvKfo for more details. Once I got it to stop on the dash board I noticed it had no Tack when raced in 1956. It also had about a half dozen extra holes. If any one knows how to print or file single shots off videos it would help my research file. This Glasspar has had very few changes since raced. The second owner made it a little more 'street legal'. A littel glass work will fix it :D

After stopping it at the 4:13 point, it looks like there is 2 large gauges in the dash to me.

These videos are a great help with the restoration. With better weather I am doing some fiberglass corrections to get the Steers Special like it was in the fall of 1956. At some point a Tach and Austin Healey parking/signal lights were added. The video has some very good shots on the Dashboard just after winning the race.

I was going through some parts boxes and found the Stewart Warner panel like was used in the factory G2 Ardun Merc. It was recently restored, too. I found the S-W dash about 30 years ago at a swap-meet in Homestead FL.

One interesting thing to note is that the two best documented racing Glasspars did not run with period Sun Tachs.

More History - The day the 8mm film was made of the Steers Glasspar something else happened that would change sports car racing to this day. Wm 'Pete' Snell was killed in a roll-over crash. His famiiy started the Snell Foundation that set standards for racing head gear. His TR-3 had no Roll Bar!

There were never any more Sports Car races at Arcata Airport.

The annual Street Rod Club swat meet was today - found a couple of neat items. A NOS V8 emblem like Dick Jones used on his Meteor SR-1 kit cars. and a 1937 Ford horn button for the banjo wheel in the Glasspar. This completes the interior parts for it.

A family member from CA was visiting - he taught Computer Science classes for years. We paused the Steers video and ran pics through his cell phone. Not great but aids in original details for the restoration. I now think the radiator is early 1950s MoPar 6 like some BoCars used.

With better weather I'm getting some needed fiberglass work done on the Glasspar and the LaDawri. The Glasspar hood was missing part of the inter framing on the rear - finished rebuilding it today. Noticed part of the hinge was missing so contacted a friend who restored one. He sent several pics - this explains best. The upper half is missing - not hard to make a pattern now I know what it looked like. Some G2s had a one piece part.

Over the years I have had several Fiberglass car bodies. The Glasspar is by far the best constructed - lots of molded in aluminum castings and half round stock which helped the bodies from de-forming in the uv. The door casements are huge aluminum castings kind ol like Walter Murphy did in bronze on Duesenberg bodies.
