Detroit Tigers host the Big 3.
09 04 09 - 23:05 Just in time for the Detroit Tiger's home opener against Texas, owner Mike Ilitch has made a bold statement of support for the "Big 3" US automakers. For many seasons the GM logo has adorned a fountain behind center field, plus some of its vehicles have been on display around the park. Due to the current economy & the new Gov't oversight, GM has decided to stop sponsoring the Tigers & and other major league teams. GM and Chrysler are trying to rebuild & restructure themselves with billions in government loans & they are trimming advertising budgets everywhere they can.
Despite that announcement, Tiger's owner Mike Ilitch is making sure that General Motors Corp. still maintains a presence at Comerica Park. This season, fans will see the General Motors name on the fountain along with logos for Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC. Underneath GM's name, a sign reads: "The Detroit Tigers support our automakers."
