I have to give NHTSA credit for once again recalling Toyota's junk, but dig the load of Crap-O-la that those geeks have swallowed in the process!

The PR wonks @ Toyota are trying to get folks to believe that loose floor mats are behind all 102 of the cases of unintended acceleration that have been reported on their vehicles. Right. That BS didn't work for Audi 20 years ago, so do they really think that the American public is that dumb today??
Apparently, our beauracrats are! Sheesh!

This is a great time of year in MI. I love to be out wandering in the woods when the colors are this fabulous & the air is cool & crisp.

My hunting buddy Bill was in from an overseas assignment & along with his daughter Megan, we hit the woods up in Lewiston, MI. The leaves weren't down yet, so you really can't see jack in there & that's our excuse for only getting 1 lousy grouse. I didn't care, because I thought that it was good to be out in the woods with the dogs for the 1st time in a couple of years.
The bonus to the weekend came when I ventured to the west side of the state, to an old-time scrap yard that Hiser told me about. He was there a couple of weeks ago with his kids. What a trip!!! I hope that they had as much fun as I had!

Check out more on this yard in our Forum!

Did you hear that the PR hacks from the Ins Institute for Highway Safety recently went to great lengths to tell us how much safer we are in today's boring, pedestrian, automotive "toasters" than we would be driving our old classic cars? Perhaps we are, but we need to think about the cars that they ran in this "test", because it was STAGED for maximum effect!!! We know that some cars will always fare better than others, but this was a staged PR stunt for the greedy Insurance Industry. Staged, because they picked a car they KNEW would perform badly in an off-set crash test, in order to get the maximum "impact"! They also posted it on Youtube to suffer us the indignity of seeing a fine old classic demolished in the name of modern "safety".

Do these over-paid execs want us to believe that our classics cars are somehow unsafe?
Are they scheming to raise our premiums on collector car insurance policies again?
Or is that jerk Nader back again?

"It's going to be an amazing adventure"

Fifty nine year old San Francisco Bay Area native Dave Schaub is going on the trip of a lifetime this fall. The Los Gatos, California resident and founder of Schaub's Meat, Fish and Poultry located in Palo Alto, California will set out Tuesday, September 8th to drive his 1932 Ford hot rod roadster through all 49 continental United States in just nine days. That's 9,800 miles in just 216 hours. For every mile he travels, Schaub is encouraging followers and supporters to donate a penny or more to the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford.
49in9
An experienced adventurist with many years of cross country hot rod journeys under his belt, Schaub is supremely confident he can go the distance. "I'm doing this because people said it couldn't be done and I've always wanted to find a cool way to help some kids in need," he said. "It's going to be hard. It will be the ultimate reliability run to test the mettle of me and my machine. I got excited about the whole concept a few years ago through the Iron Butt Association - a group of motorcyclists who bill themselves as the 'World's Toughest Motorcycle Riders'. They've organized several long distance rides around the country for motorcycles, but through all of my research I haven't been able to find anyone who has done all 49 states in a car in nine days. When I get road weary, I will turn my thoughts to the kids. I'm hopeful that will give me the added boost to pull it off."

The Fairfield County Concours d'Elegance in Westport, Connecticut wanted to include Pontiac in this year's showing, so they went looking for the oldest example possible. They tracked down a dozen Pontiacs from the brand's inaugural year (1926). Of those, they found a 1926 two-door coach from Minnetonka, Minnesota was the oldset in the land .
Co-owned by Roy Jaszczak & his son Paul, the Series 6-27 is in good running condition and it's a true "survivor"! All it's ever had done to it, was a clean-up, a valve job, and replacement tires for the ones that still had a Lindbergh-era logo on them.
To honor their stewardship of the oldest Pontiac, the car will be shipped to the Concours and the Jaszczak's will be flown to New York where they'll drive the car up to Westport for the show. The Concours will pick up the tab for their adventure.

Ashley Force is on her way to The Countdown to #1. Her win over family member Robert Hight this weekend, makes her the 1st female driver in history to win the US Nats in the Funny Car Class. She's had some great runs in 09 & has worked hard to get this far, only to have her win marred by controversy.
Cruise Pedregon's chance for the last spot in the Countdown was dashed, when John Force lost the round which gave son-in-law Robert Hight that spot in the finals. Cruise Pedregon minced no words when he accused Force of cheating & "manipulating the results" of the race. Suspiciously, Force pick the slower right hand lane for the match-up against Hight, where he quickly drove out of the "groove", lost traction & the race. Uncharacteristically poor driving by a championship caliber driver like Force, which, lends credence to Cruise's comments in the minds of some.
A NHRA found no evidence of wrong doing, but this controversy may rage for some time never-the-less.
