Ashley Wins Nats! Did John Sandbag?

Ashley Force is on her way to The Countdown to #1. Her win over family member Robert Hight this weekend, makes her the 1st female driver in history to win the US Nats in the Funny Car Class. She's had some great runs in 09 & has worked hard to get this far, only to have her win marred by controversy.

Cruise Pedregon's chance for the last spot in the Countdown was dashed, when John Force lost the round which gave son-in-law Robert Hight that spot in the finals. Cruise Pedregon minced no words when he accused Force of cheating & "manipulating the results" of the race. Suspiciously, Force pick the slower right hand lane for the match-up against Hight, where he quickly drove out of the "groove", lost traction & the race. Uncharacteristically poor driving by a championship caliber driver like Force, which, lends credence to Cruise's comments in the minds of some.

A NHRA found no evidence of wrong doing, but this controversy may rage for some time never-the-less.
